Whale Sharks
The major difference is that it has a behavior and size that is more reminiscent of whales. Unlike whales, the whale shark has a vertical tail that moves from side to side to propel it, rather than up and down as whales do.
Whale Shark Features
Whale sharks weigh in at more than nine tons, and will grow up to about 36 feet long, or a bit longer. The whale shark's size can seem somewhat intimidating until you've actually encountered it up close and personally, as you will when whale shark diving.
Sitting squarely at the top of nearly every avid divers' "to do" list of diving experiences is whale shark diving. The reason is not only the immense size but also the remarkably friendly behavior that most whale sharks will show to humans if they aren't overly aggressive. They tend to be far more like a very large dolphin in their trusting behavior when swimming among people.
The whale shark is quite a remarkable fellow, very trusting of humanity and very ardently trying to avoid a confrontation with anything at all. The size may make him well able to defend himself, but the reality is that the whale sharks would far rather simply swim away.
Whale Shark Diving
When you are diving with whale sharks, a few simple tips will heighten the experience for you, making it the very best that it can be.
Any type of behavior that they see as aggressive toward them will quite likely result in your being left on your own. Swimming rapidly after a whale shark, reaching out to touch them or grasp at their tails will send them away in a relatively short time.
Swimming among them in a passive way will assure that your whale shark diving experience is as long as possible and keeps the whale sharks with you for a longer period of time. For the experience of a lifetime, whale shark diving is something that you must experience. Just the very thought of it captures both the senses and the imagination.
