If you have a vacation to the Yucatan planned in the coming future, having an idea of what to do can be all the difference between fun and just wanting to be done. To get this plan together, you may want to have an idea of what are the best things to see or do in the Yucatan. By having an idea, you won’t be completely lost when you arrive and make everything go much smoother.

The Yucatan is the epicenter of the ancient Mayan world. It’s home to the biggest pyramid in the western hemisphere, El Castillo in Chichen Itza. If you find yourself in the Yucatan, you’ll thank yourself for making the trip to Chichen Itza.

The beauty is breathtaking and the ancient buildings will have you envisioning the Mayans old world. The restoration projects that have been underway have made huge improvements. The ruins aren’t the moss covered old rocks as they that were once depicted. They have been cleared and made like they were just abandoned.

Another great option while in the Yucatan is to take advantage of the wild jungles that will be all around you. For birders, it’s the closest thing to heaven on earth. You can expect to see dozens of species of birds that you can’t see anywhere else. Some of these include the turquoise-browed motmot, the Yucatan jay, and painted bunting.

The turquoise-browed motmot can only be found in a few places around the world, its bright turquoise crown and green back makes the bird quickly identifiable. This species of bird is often seen in the many wells and cenotes around the Yucatan. This simple fact can make the turquoise-browed momot easy to find when in the right spot.

Cenote Swimming and Diving

Another great option is the idea of cenote swimming and diving. The cenotes were used as sources of fresh water and worship. The most popular cenotes for swimming will have signs to direct you, but the safest bet is to be part of a guided group that has cenote swimming in the day plan. Some cenotes connect to other cenotes, so if you’re used to scuba diving, then the Yucatan cenotes may be a great opportunity for an unusual dive.

The Yaxkin Spa

The Yaxkin Spa is one of the top eco-spa’s in the world. It was even been named one of the top eco-spa and Holistic Wellness centers in North America by National Geographic. The spa incorporates the Mayan traditions of earth elements to give you the most relaxing and renewing experience anywhere. The blessing of the water, Fire, Earth, and Air are one of Yaxkin’s specialties.

The Blessing of Water connects to the Mayan moon-goddess. The healing ritual is based on the fresh waters from the Mayan cenotes harvested during the full moon. When all the rituals are done consecutively, it provides the most possible good for the recipient.

These are only a few of the best things to see or do in the Yucatan while on vacation. There are countless other things to do, so even after you do everything listed here, there will plenty of other things to try. Enjoy!!
