Mexico - Jarana

Jarana

In these pictures you can see pairs of men and women dancing Jarana which is a typical dance of the Yucatan Peninsula performed in a feast known as “Vaquerias”.

Vaquerias feast is created and celebrated by the rural people in Yucatan.

Typically done in pairs, the dance Jarana consists of footwork without distinguished steps or differentiation between women and men.  In this kind of dance, the dancers make use of tray with cups and glassed bottles placed on their heads while dancing. During the dance, someone calls the word “bomba” at the end of the performance.

And for their music, a winds band ensemble performs the Jarana.
