An Elegant View Of Chichen Itza

In this gallery you can see beautiful Chichen Itza pictures – an elegant view of Chichen Itza by night and an impressive view by day. In here you can also see the images of sculptures in Chichen Itza ruins.

The sacred city of the Itza which is known as Chichen Itza is located 75 miles east of Merida, the Capital of the State of Yucatan, Mexico.  Among the Mayan ruins, this archaeological site is rated as the most important of the Maya culture.

Chichen Itza in Maya language means “at the mouth of the well of Itza”, is the second most visited archeological site of Mexico today.  The Pyramid of Kukulkan in Chichen Itza is known as the “El Castillo” (the castle) which was elected as the one of the new Seven Wonders of the World in July 7, 2007.

The picture of the Pyramid of Kukulkan tells how magnificent the structure is, no wonder it was voted as one of the 7 wonders of the world.  The pyramid is towers above the other buildings at 79 feet high. Originally, each side has 91 steps, plus the platform at the top serves as the final step which totals to 365 steps. Each step signifies one day for everyday of the year.

Temple of Kukulkan

The image of the Pyramid of Kukulkan serves as evidence that the building was linked to Mayan interests of astronomy and the calendar is demonstrated at the spring and autumn equinox.

During the day, the shadow of the sun plays on the stairs which is creating an illusion of a snake creeping down the pyramid towards the direction of the cenote.  This natural impressive sight entices thousands of tourists to visit Chichen Itza.

Although, it would be quite a climb to the top, but once you are there you will surely have a marvelous view of the rest of the ruins.

You can see the carvings of Chac, the rain god and Quetzalcoatl, the serpent god in the temple at the top of the pyramid. And apart from the Kukulkan Pyramid, you can see many other archeological sites to visit in Chichen Itza which are all carrying traces from the Mayan Culture in many other ways.
