Tikal Yaxha Nakum Tour

Located on the shore of lake with the same name, Yaxha is the third largest Maya City after El Mirador and Tikal. This was an important ceremonial site during the Mayan civilization and also a Maya city of monumental magnitude with over 500 structures excavated connected by causeways and trails under a green tropical forest. In Mayan language Yaxha means “green water”. Structures include stelae, ball courts, altars and pyramids.

One of the well-known survival contests which is Survivor Guatemala was held in this archaeological site last 2006.

Listed below are the exciting activities on the 5-day Yaxha, Tikal, Nakum Tour.

Day 1:

You will be picked up from Flores, Guatemala from a town or airport at your arrival time. We will take you to the Tikal National Park, nearby the Jaguar Inn hotel where we will stay for the night. This hotel is close to the entrance of Tikal archeological site, or just a minute-walk away.

If you spend the night close to the Tikal National Park you will be able to see the park at sunset and sunrise which gives an awe inspiring experience of beautiful colors and abundant wild life.

Day 2:

Embark the day with an amazing guided tour to the Tikal ruins and National Park. Climb and experience what it’s like to reach and be on the top of Tikal's highest pyramids. From the top, you will see the vast Mayan jungle and enjoy its spectacular views.

Within the park and at the top of these ancient temples, you will have the opportunity to see an abundance of exotic wildlife such as toucans, coatis and spider monkeys.

And in the afternoon, we will proceed to Yaxha through a private transportation. Yaxha will be the starting point of our bicycle or horseback adventure for the following day.

We will be spending the night at a relaxing eco-lodge by the banks of Lake Yaxha. And at night, we will take you to a guided night walk where you can explore nocturnal flora and fauna.

Day 3:

Today’s activity will be more on adventure tourism. We will follow a jungle road which leads us 17 kilometers or 11 miles deeper into the Mayan World on the way to Nakum which is another archeological site in Guatemala. This will be an enjoyable and challenging ride for those who have off-road cycling experience. In case you don’t want to go off-road cycling then you can opt to ride a horse with no experience needed to reach this wonderful destination.

Off-road cycling option is only available during dry season as long as the road can facilitate this activity. Hiking or horseback riding will be the alternatives when roads are too muddy.

After we have reached the beautiful campsite of Nakum, we will explore the isolated Mayan ruins concealed deep inside its protected jungle. Only a few people have reached this remote Mayan site where excavations still continue.

Day 4:

We will depart Nakum by bicycles or ride our horses back to Yaxha. Before visiting the tall temples of its Mayan site, we will be taking a refreshing break at the lake. We will climb Yaxha’s highest temple which will reward us with spectacular sunset view over the lakes and jungle of Yaxha National Park at the end of the day. After we climb down the tallest temple, we will spend the night at El Sombrero, also a comfortable eco-lodge.

Day 5:

Before we end the Mayan eco tour we will have a debriefing regarding your experience. Then your guide will accompany you to Flores airport for your return flight home.
