Tikal El Peru Canoe Tour

This tour will begin and end in Flores Guatemala.  We will have stops in Tikal, El Remate and El Peru.  We will embark the tour in the amazing Tikal ruins and travel deep into the Mayan jungle in canoes going to the remote ruins of El Peru.  The El Peru ruins are located deep in the jungle which is the reason why it is rarely seen by travelers.  Going there will surely afford you a mystic experience.

Day 1: Transfer Flores from airport or town to Tikal in 1 hr. Spend a Night in Jaguar Inn hotel Tikal.

On the first day of the tour, we can pick you up from Flores Guatemala -town or airport- at your arrival time.  From Flores, we will take you to the Tikal National Park from our private transportation.  We will stay and spend the night at Jaguar Inn hotel which is just a walking distance away from the Tikal’s archeological site entrance.

In Tikal National Park, you can spend an awesome night seeing the beautiful park at sunset and sunrise giving you a memorable experience of beautiful colors and plentiful wild life.

Day 2: Tikal ruins guided tour. Transfer to El Remate for 30 minutes. And a Night in hotel El Remate.

The second day of the tour will begin with a fascinating guided tour in the ruins of Tikal and National Park in the morning.  You will not only have the chance to climb the tallest temples in Tikal, but you will also have the best opportunity to see abundant of exotic wildlife such as coatis, spider monkeys and toucans.

We will leave Tikal Park and head to El Remate, Guatemala in the afternoon.  You can find this ecotourism village on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá.  Here you will have time to enjoy swimming in the transparent and turquoise waters of the lake.  So don’t forget to bring your bathing suits!

If you are fond of artworks such as woodcarvings then you will delight in the chance of meeting some of local woodcarvers who dedicated themselves to this magnificent forest-saving art.

We will end the second day of the tour by indulging in mouth-watering cuisine at one of the local restaurants.  Then we will spend a night in genuine typical limestone cabañas which will complete our community experience.

Day 3: Transfer to Paso Caballos within 3hrs from where we canoe to our campsite for 2.5 hours. Camp at Biological Research Station.

On the third day of the tour, we will proceed deeper into the jungle through off-road vehicles to a small jungle village called "Paso Caballos".  From here we will set off in canoes and paddle our way down to Rio San Pedro.  Surrounded by lush jungle, this calm river leads us to the National Park Laguna del Tigre.  We will arrive to the Biological Research Station after 2 and half hours of canoeing.  We will camp in this Biological Research Station.  This campsite offers comfort as it has bathrooms, cold showers and kitchen area where we can cook and prepare meals on wood fires.  We will also have the chance to mingle with the local forest protectors of the research station.

Day 4: Canoe and hike to El Peru archeological site, visit the site. 2 hours canoe plus 5 hours hike total. Camp at Biological Research Station.

The fourth day of the tour will be dedicated to the Mayan ruins.  We will explore the jungle and its wildlife and visit archeological site of El Peru.  We canoe for an hour from the campsite to the dock of El Peru.  Then you will see hiking trails which we are going to follow in order to reach the El Peru’s hidden Mayan ruins.  Here you will have a unique opportunity to see the very rare and endangered Scarlet

Macaw which is also one of the highlights of the pristine forest surrounding the ruins.

These beautiful parrots left between Mexico and Guatemala are less than 150 breeding pairs and here you will have a big chance of seeing them in their natural habitat.

We will return to the campsite at the end of the day to enjoy the appetizing campfire meals and unwind.

Day 5: Canoe back to Paso Caballos for 2.5 hrs. Transfer to Flores for 2 hours.

In two and a half hours we canoe back up to the San Pedro River and reach Paso Caballos village.  After that we will depart the village using off-road vehicles which will take us back to Flores where the tour ends at around 4 in the afternoon.

You can add an extra camping day in the jungle in case you want to have more time wildlife watching, canoeing and exploring this remarkable destination!
