The Tour
The tour starts at 5 pm when we meet in the downtown area. After a Marine Turtle Presentation, this night tour invites you to the unique opportunity to come and help release baby marine turtles and/or see the female turtles lay their eggs on the beach!
Your experienced biologist guide will give you a full explanation about the different turtle species, their habitat, their behavior and the way Cozumel Island has been protecting the marine turtle nesting grounds and helping the turtles reproduce for over 15 years.
You will further be transferred to the release/nesting beach. From June until September we can see the female turtles lay their eggs. From August until November we are able to help new born turtles out of their nests and on their way to the ocean. Depending on the amount of visitors you MAY be asked to help the biologists in cleaning out the hatching nests.
You will be back to downtown at around 8 pm if you participate in releasing only or later if you also wish to see the turtles lay their eggs or depending on how many turtle releases you would like to participate in. You may even choose to volunteer and help the biologist with their activities until sunrise.

Marine turtles
Marine turtles have lived in the oceans for over 100 million years. Although sea turtles live most of their lives in the ocean, adult females must return to beaches on land to lay their eggs. They often migrate long distances between foraging grounds and nesting beaches. Of the seven species of marine turtles in the world, four occur in the transparent waters of the Yucatan Peninsula.
- Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta)
- Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
- Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricate
- Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)
Marine turtles on Cozumel
Every year from June to September these endangered marine turtles come to lay their eggs in the white sand beaches of the Mexican Caribbean coasts. Now this unique and amazing sight can be witnessed on Cozumel Island!
100% of the tour profit goes directly to the Cozumel Sea Turtle Conservation Project. Extra donations are always appreciated.
