Muyil and Sian Ka´an Tour

This tour combines both the Mayan history and the natural beauties of Sian Ka’an Nature Reserve.
Sian Ka´an means “where the sky begins” in Maya.

The reserve is the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean. It protects several ecosystems like mangroves, wetlands, coastal dunes and coral reefs. The reserve gives home to many animals such as jaguars, tapirs, manatees, dolphins, turtles, crocodiles and tropical birds.
On the eastern side of the reserve, one finds an ancient Mayan establishment called Muyil.

Upon arrival to the reserve, the tour starts with a boat ride across the lagoon. Your naturalist guide will explain more about the eco-system and wildlife of these wetlands. After 45 minutes, you may leave the boat and simply float on the current trhough the canals.
 


At the other side of the lagoon, your guide will take you on a jungle hike to the ancient Mayan site of Muyil. Muyil was one of the earliest and longest inhabited Mayan sites on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The site used to be an important point on the Maya Caribbean trade route.

Before leaving the reserve you will be invited to swim and snorkel in a cenote. The Yucatan Peninsula has many cenotes, which are natural sinkholes or caverns, connected to an endless system of underground-rivers. Explore this amazing underwater system with a mask and snorkel!
You will head back to Tulum where you will enjoy your choice of a fish, beef or chicken lunch before returning to your hotel.
