Macaw Mountain
A multi-faceted eco-tourism project on ten heavily forested acres, only six minutes by vehicle from Copan's Central Park.

The park provides visitors exotic tropical birds of Honduras and a natural botanical garden of native plants and towering hardwood trees.

The park has a collection of Honduran and Central American macaws, toucans and parrots that have been recovered from captivity. All birds are carefully maintained, and can fly freely in large, naturally planted aviaries.

There is also an exhibit that considers the relationship between the ancient Maya of Copan and the birds, particularly the magnificent Scarlet Macaw. You can take photos and actually interact with the birds.

Easily access for wheelchair for handicapped visitors, there is a very nice and easy nature trail that follows the canyon for the length of the property and allows nature and bird watchers to sight wild birds, butterflies and squirrels that inhabit the park.

The park has a very strong Eco-educational component with informative tours emphasizing bird habitat, natural history, biology and conservation.
